Association of Real Estate Professionals™ Charter

This Charter establishes the purpose, governance framework, and membership standards of the Association of Real Estate Professionals™ (“Association”).

1) Purpose

The Association exists to strengthen the real estate profession by advancing professionalism, accountability, and infrastructure for those who serve the real estate marketplace.

  • Build national visibility and credibility for the profession through voluntary standards and institutional governance.
  • Support member success through education, resources, and professional alignment.
  • Encourage ethical conduct and reliable business practices that protect consumers and professionals alike.
  • Promote a strong professional network across brokers, agents, lenders, investors, property managers, and aligned industry roles.

2) Voluntary Membership

Membership in the Association is voluntary. Members agree to uphold the Association’s standards and policies as a condition of membership, and acknowledge that the Association may enforce compliance through private governance processes.

3) Core Principles

  • Professionalism: Members conduct business with competence, diligence, and respect for the profession.
  • Integrity: Members act honestly, avoid misrepresentation, and disclose material facts within their professional role.
  • Accountability: Members accept that continued membership requires compliance with Association standards.
  • Respect: Members avoid harassment, discrimination, or conduct that materially undermines professional environments.
  • Stewardship: Members protect the reputation and credibility of the Association and its designations.

4) Standards of Professional Conduct

Members agree to:

  • Comply with all applicable laws, licensing rules, and consumer protection requirements relevant to their role.
  • Maintain accurate advertising and representations, including credentials and services offered.
  • Avoid fraudulent, deceptive, or materially misleading conduct.
  • Respect client confidentiality and handle sensitive information responsibly.
  • Communicate professionally and resolve disputes in good faith when feasible.

Important: The Association does not impose MLS participation mandates or market-wide cooperation rules. The Association’s role is professional membership governance and standards, not marketplace control.

5) Governance

The Association operates under a private governance framework. The Board of Directors (or Managing Members/Managers, as applicable) provides oversight of policies, standards, membership programs, and enforcement processes.

  • Adopts and updates policies supporting this Charter.
  • Oversees member standards, education, and designations.
  • Appoints committees or officers as needed for operations.
  • Maintains discretion to protect the Association’s reputation and integrity.

6) Membership Accountability & Enforcement

The Association may take private action when credible evidence suggests a member has materially violated this Charter or related Association policies. Actions may include, without limitation:

  • Written notice and opportunity to respond
  • Required remediation steps (education, correction, acknowledgement)
  • Suspension of membership privileges
  • Revocation of membership
  • Restriction or removal of Association designation usage rights (as applicable)

Detailed enforcement procedures, timelines, and appeal rights (if offered) may be set forth in separate internal policies and may be updated by the Association.

7) Brand, Marks, and Designations

The Association name, logos, seals, and any designation marks (including the REPro™ designation, if applicable through membership) are protected assets. Use may be granted, restricted, suspended, or revoked at the Association’s discretion in accordance with Association policies.

8) Amendments

This Charter may be amended by the Association’s governing authority (Board/Managers/Managing Members, as applicable). Amendments will be posted to this page with updated adoption/amendment dates and version number.
